The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints did once publish figures on humanitarian aid contributions, however, they no longer do. The below is a snapshot from THIS church website on Feb 20, 2011. The snapshot shows the church reporting $327.6 Million in donations for humanitarian aid donations between 1985 and 2009, or $1.4 million per year over the 24 year time period. Church membership is reported to be 13 million so that would be about 10 or 11 cents per member of the church in 2009. Members are required to pay 10 percent of their earnings in the form of tithing, so we'd actually expect humanitarian aid contributions to be much more.
Of coarse, church membership wasn't 13 million over that entire time period, but even if we generously said that average membership was 8 million (reported) over that time period, the donations would still amount to a mere 17 or 18 cents per member per year given the figures the church is reporting. Given the membership reporting problems described on the Membership and Attendance page, the number of active members could be much lower than the reported 13 million number though. We urge the church to be transparent in their reporting so these types of calculations can be properly performed in order to gain more insight into the operations of the church.
